Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said Thursday that Idaho has made significant progress in setting up its own health insurance exchange for many residents and small businesses to shop for insurance plans.
Idaho received conditional approval to operate a state-based exchange, which means Idaho is on track to run the marketplace in 2014.
Several neighboring states also have been conditionally approved. Idaho Gov. Butch Otter decided last month to opt for a nonprofit state-based exchange instead of a federal one, but it is subject to legislative approval.
"I applaud Idaho?s work to build a new health insurance marketplace," Sebelius said. "Idaho has made significant progress, and will be ready in ten months for open enrollment when Idahoans will be able to use the new marketplace to easily purchase quality health insurance," including with possible tax credits toward the purchase.
